Next to Trogir, the second largest city of Croatia is located – Split. This city is also one of the oldest one in that area – it’s over 1700 years old! The place where we spent most of our time there, is the Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian. But don’t expect an archaeological excavation or a museum… The old town – the living heart of Split – itself is the Diocletian Palace! It’s a labyrinth of narrow streets packed with people, restaurants and lots of ancient buildings. And every now and then, you recognize that you are still wandering through a palace and not a typical old town.
Outside the walls of the old town, the market is located where you can find everything starting from fruits, vegetables to flowers, shoes and other products.
Also right next to the old town, you can find the Port of Split where nearly all ferries leave. This port is the lagerst in Croatia and the third lagerst in the Mediterranean Sea, therefore you’ll find lots of boats and even more people there. Since I like the atmosphere there, I can only recommend taking a look there as well.
