Year after year, xmas-markets flood the city during the (last) weeks before Christmas. And the sweet (chemical) smell of hot mulled wine and candy cotton lies above the streets…
If you want to escape from that at least for a while, then I can name you a save place: The Olympus Photography Playground.
It is located in the heart of Vienna – in the former Austrian Mail headquarter (Postgasse 10, 1010 Wien) – and definitely worth visiting. If you are not as interested in photography as I am, the old and normally abandoned building itself is worth taking a look!
The Olympus Photography Playground is an interactive exhibition which was designed by artists from all around the world, and invites to photographically conquer new worlds. Several stations are spread on 2 floors and each of them focus on a different kind of style e.g. long time exposure for light painting. One of the installations (“SWARM”) was also created by an Austrian artist collective called NEON GOLDEN. Their work simulates an moving swarm in a room through blinking, red LEDs and the according sounds. Like every installation, this one is immersive too and you follow the swarm through the room. Other installations require more personal commitment and therefore provide costumes.
And my favorite part of this exhibition: Taking pictures is more than welcome! If you don’t have a camera yourself, you can easily borrow an – of course – Olympus right at the entrance.
Opening hours: 20/11 – 19/12/2014, Mo – Fr: 11am – 07pm | Sa – Su: 10am – 06pm | Entrance is FREE!
